Jean Ritchie: Mountain Born
I find I love best sitting on my cabin porch, with family around – my husband, sons, sisters, nieces and nephews from down the hill – “singing the moon up” as our family did when I was a child. We might just sing, and then there might be instruments coming in – dulcimers, a guitar, a fiddle, recorders. So writes Appalachian folk singer Jean Ritchie about the music of the mountains which she has recorded here. This is a recording of songs to share, again, a way of life, a loved place in the world, all the memories gathered and passed on by the people there.
